Van Jollage is slechts één werk overgeleverd: het in 1738 in Parijs verschenen, uit twee suites bestaande Premier livre de Pièces de Clavecin. En ook verder weten we bitter weinig van deze componist. Hij moet ergens, waar weten we niet, rond 1700 geboren zijn. Ook van zijn opleiding weten we niets. Rond 1720 komen we hem tegen als organist in dienst van de Poolse koning Stanisław Bogusław Leszczyński, die van 1725 tot 1733 op het Château de Chambord woonde. In 1755 werd hij samen met o.a. Louis-Claude Daquin en Armand-Louis Couperin organist aan de Notre-Dame de Paris. Bij zijn overlijden in 1761 liet hij o.a. ‘un clavecin à deux claviers dans sa boete et sur son pied de bois peint en verd et à fillets dorés avec saq de cuir prisé comme très vieux quarante livres’ na.

Klavecinist Fernando De Luca bespeelt een kopie van een instrument van Blanchet uit 1754. Uit zijn toelichting:

'The book is composed of copious sequence of pieces divided into two tones, A major/minor and G major/minor, stylistically reflecting the taste prevailing in the France of those years. These pieces are rather conventional, but certainly with some exceptional ideas that make the work of a certain interest as well as very pleasant to listen to. A motif is perhaps due to Jollage’s particular use of the rondeau by doubling many pieces in two autonomous sections (Première Partie et Seconde Partie), one in major and the other in minor. Then we have some pieces like the penultimate of the first suite (L’Italienne) with a very modern style according to some imitating Domenico Scarlatti, but even reminiscent of a certain sonatistic language of Joseph Haydn.'

Interessant zijn ook de opmerkingen die Fernando De Luca maakt over Jollage’s bijna tijdgenoot Antoine Watteau (1684-1721):

'In Watteau’s painting we can see the same spirit that is found in Jollage’s music for harpsichord. The comparisons of idioms between the painter and the musician draw their lifeblood from the same humus, while retaining all the characteristics of harpsichord music of his period, Watteau’s brushstrokes blend well in the thematic engravings in Jollage’s Pièces for harpsichord.'

Jollage mag dan niet de meest diepzinnige van alle Franse klavecinisten wezen, het beluisteren van deze cd is wel degelijk zeer de moeite waard. Fernando De Luca beheerst de Franse stijl tot in de puntjes en is duidelijk op dreef in deze muziek. De notoir lastig op te nemen klavecimbelklank komt prima uit de luidsprekers. Een aanrader!
