PENTATONE is proud to announce Best Opera Recording

PENTATONE is proud to announce that John Corigliano’s The Ghosts of Versailles has won Best Opera Recording and Best Classical Engineered Album in the 59th Grammy Awards.

Commissioned by the Metropolitan Opera to celebrate its 100th anniversary, the opera received its premiere at the Met in 1991. The success of Ghosts resulted in many performances throughout the world in the 25 years to follow, one of which took place in February 2015 at the LA Opera. Performed with soloists Joshua Guerrero, Christopher Maltman, Lucas Meachem, Patricia Racette, Lucy Schaufer and Guanqun Yu, conducted by James Conlon, and produced by Blanton Alspaugh, this production was recorded live and released for the very first time by PENTATONE in this double album release. Our warmest congratulations go out to everyone involved.

The Ghosts of Versailles is part of our American Opera Series, launched last year with this release together with Higdon’s Cold Mountain (also nominated for this year’s Grammy Awards). American opera embodies the individualism of its homeland. With each generation, new musical language has found its voice in American opera – a voice that resonates with all who love the music, the drama and the brilliance that is opera.
New projects in the series for 2017 include Gordon Getty’s “The Canterville Ghost” and Jake Heggie’s “It’s a Wonderful Life”, premiered a few months ago with the Grand Houston Opera. Both operas will be released later this year.

David Frost has also been awarded the title of Best Producer for the production of PENTATONE releases Bach: The Cello Suites According To Anna Magdalena and Overtures To Bach, amongst others. Congratulations!
